World’s Most Innovative Reusable Water Bottle Will Be Available at Renowned International Event through Exclusive Co-Branded Promotion

Company’s Court Action Stops Unauthorized Sales, Import of Copycat Product

Westlake Village, CA—August 31, 2012, VAPUR®, makers of the foldable, flexible, reusable and eco-responsible “Anti-Bottle,” has successfully obtained an injunction to stop an Australian importer and wholesaler from importing and/or selling a made-in-China flexible reusable water bottle.

Soon after learning of the existence of the lookalike bottles at the Reed Gift Fair held in Melbourne, Australia  (August 6-10, 2011), Vapur filed the injunction with Australia’s federal court on August 12, 2011. On August 16, the importer and wholesaler was ordered by the court:

  • To cease import and sales of the unauthorized knockoffs in Australia
  • To immediately cease the use of Vapur graphics on any packaging
  • To turn over any remaining stock of the foldable bottles
  • To pay related legal costs incurred by Vapur.

“We have sent a very clear message to the marketplace that we will go after any company that infringes on our intellectual property rights,” said Brent Reinke, co-founder and COO of Vapur.  “Our product is unique, innovative and highly successful, and we will vigorously enforce these rights anywhere and everywhere, including Australia.”

Vapur executives were made aware of the knockoffs during the Australia launch of the Anti-Bottle at the Reed Gift Fair, where they learned that the importer and wholesaler in question was promoting foldable, flexible water bottles with a similar packaging design featuring graphics which, among other things, violated Vapur copyrights.  When the company refused to comply with a cease and desist letter, Vapur filed the injunction, which successfully stopped the company from selling or importing the copycat bottles. The only authorized distributor of Vapur Anti-Bottles in Australia is Roxberry Group Pty Ltd.

In May 2011, Vapur also filed a lawsuit against American wholesaler Reshine Promotions for producing and selling counterfeit Anti-Bottles. The suit, filed on May 26, 2011 in the United States District Court in the Central District of California, seeks damages for federal trademark counterfeiting, federal trademark infringement, federal design patent infringement, federal unfair competition and California unfair competition.

The original, authentic Vapur Anti-Bottles are exclusively made in the USA, are FDA-approved and BPA-free. It is constructed of three layers of durable plastic – the innermost layer is made from FDA-approved Polyethylene which is then bonded to two layers of nylon for strength and durability. Limited-Edition Series Unveiled in U.S. and Canada

The series features three winning designs from Vapur’s “Thirst for Design” competition, which took place in the fall of last year.

The melting pot of winners:

  • “Bottle Dweller,” by David Herbst, 24, of Germany — a teal Anti-Bottle, featuring the graphic illustration of the Vapur “Bottle Dweller,” a somber, yet comical oval-shaped character, shielding himself with an umbrella from a downpour of water as the bottle is being filled.
  • “Aqua Libre,” by Marcel Weik, 30, of Germany — a red Anti-Bottle with a front and back mask design. The title translates from French to “free water” and is homage to the Mexican style of wrestling, known as “Lucha Libre.”
  • “Shark Bait,” by Waqar Hassan Syed, 24, of Pakistan — a blue Anti-Bottle, featuring the image of a clever little fish holding a sign to disguise himself as fierce, toothy shark.

Vapur will first unveil the Artist Series at the Dallas Gift Show on June 22 and will be available at gift shows throughout the summer for new and current authorized Vapur retailers in the U.S. and Canada, while supplies last. Winning Designs to Appear on Limited Edition “Artist Series” Launching in 2011

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ — Vapur Inc., makers of the VAPUR® Anti-Bottle ™, a foldable, flexible, reusable eco-friendly water bottle, is pleased to announce the winners of its “Thirst for Design” competition. The contest, facilitated by the online creative collaboration platform jovoto, invited artists from around the world to submit graphic designs to appear on Vapur’s new “Artist Series” of Anti-Bottles scheduled for release in 2011.

The Thirst for Design contest began in July with the goal of uncovering fresh designs for a series of limited-edition Anti-Bottles. During an eight-week run, nearly 300 artists from around the world submitted 1,000 designs to be selected for one of three limited-edition “Artist Series” bottles. The winners were chosen from 27 finalists by a distinguished panel of judges known for their creativity and commitment to the environment including Lara Deam of Dwell Magazine, Karen Solomon of Opportunity Green, William Schwartz of TapIt, Laurenz Schaffer of BMW DesignWorks, Jonathan Greenblatt of Allforgood.org,Matthew Lloyd of Method Home and HDTV Design Star Antonio Ballatore.

“We are thrilled with the outcome,” said Jason Carignan, Chief Design Officer and Co-Founder of Vapur. “The Anti-Bottle is like no other — it’s where form meets function and where beauty and utility meld together — so our winning designs needed to reflect that unique sensibility. The number of entrants and the quality of their work far exceeded our expectations.”

Each international juried winner will see their designs grace the 2011 limited-edition “Artist Series” bottles. The winning designs will be celebrated at the upcoming Opportunity Green Business Conference 2010 in Los Angeles, which takes place September 22-24. The winners are:

-David Herbst, 24, of Germany, for his “Bottle Inhabitants” design
-Marcel Weik, 30, of Germany, for his “Aqua Libre” design
-Waqar Hassan Syed, 24, of Pakistan, for his “Thirsty” design

“Our winners were chosen for their iconic, original designs, which exhibited a level of creativity consistent with the Vapur brand,” Carignan said.

In addition to the juried winners, the jotovo design community selected six additional winners via an online forum designed to showcase entries and allow the public to rate their favorites. Online community members posted more than 11,000 ratings and more than 2,600 comments on the site.  These six additional winners will receive a cash prize and recognition throughout the design world for their talents. They are:

-Leonardo Gonzalez, 27, of Venezuela, for his “Water is Fun” design
-David Herbst, 24, of Germany, for his “Bottle Inhabitants” design
-Thorsten Kuss, 35, of Germany, for his “Fantastic Tap Water” design
-Harpreet Padam, 31, of India, for his “World Changers Collection” design
-Jorge A. Garcia Razo, 25, of Mexico, for his “Relation Between Plants and Water” design
-Yorik Illescas, 34, of Guatemala, for his “Small World” design.

Vapur is looking forward to the launch of the “Artist Series” and were thrilled to create a platform for the talented designers from around the world.  The collection – truly functional pieces of art – will appeal to eco-minded and all trendsetters who recognize these useful necessities are also sought-after accessories.

Vapur was so impressed with the outcome of  the competition that the company has decided to license several additional designs beyond the “Artist Series.” They will become part of a new collection of Anti-Bottles featuring an array of patterns and graphics slated for release next year.

VAPUR® a foldable, flexible, reusable eco-friendly water bottle known as the “Anti-Bottle” is teaming up with Dwell magazine and Opportunity Green to sponsor the Vapur Thirst For Design Design Competition. The contest, facilitated by competition organizer jovoto, will give emerging artists the chance to design a new graphic for the first in a string of special-edition Anti-Bottles in Vapur’s new “Artist Series.”

Vapur bottles, which can be rolled, folded or flattened when empty, will create a unique canvas for the winning design, which will be printed directly onto the front and back surfaces of each bottle. Vapurs flexible yet durable body uses less plastic than a traditional rigid bottle and takes a smaller amount of energy to produce and transport. The anti-bottle is dishwasher safe, long-lasting and BPA-free.

The Anti-Bottle is innovation and distinction in both form and function.
